Cheryl Manning teaches Honors Earth & Space Science, Honors Chemistry, and AP Environmental Science at Evergreen High School. Cheryl is serving her Fellowship with the National Science Foundation (NSF), Directorate for Geosciences (GEO), in the Office of the Assistant Director (OAD). With twenty-six years of teaching experience in Montana, Utah and Colorado, she has taught both middle and high school where she worked on numerous district-wide STEM and standards initiatives, coached skiing, Science Bowl and Science Olympiad teams, and sponsored student government. She also taught a variety university-level introductory, laboratory, and field geology field courses and online courses in the Earth and Environmental Science for in-service teachers.
Cheryl earned her B.S. and M.S. in Geology from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT and a Secondary Science Teaching Certificate with teaching minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics from the University of Utah. Early in her career, Cheryl was recognized as Utah’s Science Teacher of the Year which encouraged her to continue learning: earning certifications to teach GLOBE, AP-Environmental Science and AP Chemistry. She is an ARMADA Master Teacher and the NAGT Southwest Section Outstanding Earth Science Teacher. Cheryl holds National Board Certification in Adolescent/Young Adult – Earth Sciences. As the President of the National Earth Science Teachers Association from 2016-18, Cheryl oversaw a complete website makeover, establishing NESTA on Twitter to promote Earth and Environmental Science and renewed partnerships with partner organizations. She operates her own science education consulting firm focusing on curriculum review and development for a variety of clients. Most recently, Cheryl created online tools for teachers to plan climate change lessons and units congruent with NGSS for the Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network.
