Jeffrey Milbourne

Jeff Milbourne currently serves as STEM coordinator for the Writing and Learning Center at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. Prior to his fellowship, Jeff taught high school physics in North Carolina for 10 years, during which time he achieved National Board Certification and won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching. Jeff served his fellowship in the office of US Congressman Mike Honda (CA-17), where he handled the Congressman’s education portfolio during the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Portions of the Congressman’s bills, including the STEM Master Teacher Corps, were incorporated into the Every Student Succeeds Act. Following his fellowship, Jeff completed his PhD in Science Education and returned to Congressman Honda’s office, where he served as a senior advisor for educational equity until the Congressman retired in 2016. Beyond his Congressional work, Jeff has served as a strategic advisor for national groups like AAPT, 100kin10, and the US Department of Education. He continues to teach, write, and advocate for high quality STEM education for all students, everywhere.
