Kimberly Hermans comes to her Fellowship appointment as a high school computer science teacher from Woodbridge High School in Irvine, CA. Kimberly is serving her Fellowship at the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Division of Computer and Network Systems (CNS).

Kimberly has 12 years of teaching experience at the high school level, teaching math and computer science, in addition to 3 years of lecturing experience at California State University, Fullerton and University of California, Irvine. Kimberly has designed and implemented a 4-year computer science pathway at her current high school, as well as serving as her district’s Career and Technical Education mentor for Information and Communications Technology. Outside of the classroom, Kimberly has been involved as a Girls Who Code advisor, and participates as an AP reader for AP Computer Science A.

After earning a B.S. in information & computer science with a minor in mathematics and a specialization in Software Systems from the University of California, Irvine, Kimberly received a single subject credential in mathematics and CTE with an authorization in computer science in the state of California. Later, Kimberly earned an M.S. in secondary education and another M.S. in computer science from California State University, Fullerton. Kimberly is a National Board Certified Teacher in Mathematics.
