Matthew Bryant began his education career teaching at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, OH, where he taught physics, Earth science, and astronomy for 13 years. In 2012 Matt relocated to Kentucky, where he has continued teaching physics and astronomy at South Warren High School. In addition to his private and public high school teaching, Matt has taught both STEM and non-STEM college majors at Kent State University (2016-2017) as well as middle school students at summer science camps at the University of Wyoming. Matt completed his BS in Physics Education at Kent State University and his Master’s degree in Secondary Science Education at the University of Akron. In 2014 Matt was awarded Warren County Schools’ Golden Apple award for his physics teaching at South Warren High School. He earned his National Board Teaching Certification in Physics in 2017. In 2018 Matt was honored to be selected as one of the U.S. participants for the Einstein Plus program at the Perimeter Institute of Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario, where he learned about modern physics and pedagogy with physics teachers from around the globe. Also in 2018, Matt was elected Vice President for the Kentucky Association of Physics Teachers—a position in which he continues to lead workshops for fellow Kentucky physics educators. Matt is not only committed to his students’ learning, he is also committed to his own continuing education and that of his fellow teachers. Each year he has spearheaded his science department members’ participation in teaching conferences. He is increasingly active in his local education association, this year travelling to the Kentucky State Capitol to meet with legislators and advocate for students and teachers.
