Michelle Steever was placed in Office of Representative Katherine Clark, MA – 05. Rep Clark was a senior member of the Appropriations Committee as well as Vice Chairperson of the Democratic Caucus. Michelle has been a diversified educator for 25 years and has taught High School Physics and Algebra; Middle School general science, ELD Science, Robotics, Engineering Design, GATE; K -5 Science Resource; and Science Methods Courses to preservice teachers at San Jose State University. Although currently retired from high school teaching (June 2021) she continues to contribute as a mentor, instructor, and supervisor to new and preservice teachers affiliated with the both school district and SJSU. Ms. Steever obtained a B.S. in Engineering Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and worked as a Materials and Process Engineer for Westinghouse prior to completing her teaching credential. After obtaining her Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from San Jose State University, Ms. Steever moved from middle school to high school where she was the lead instructor and designer for a Physics First Program implementing the Next Generation Science Standards – including a Climate Change capstone project. Ms. Steever was a member of the NGSS Advisory committee for her school district and is the Physics coordinator Combining her professional and education experiences, Ms. Steever has been responsible for teacher professional development as a Tech Fellow with the Tech Museum of San Jose and as a GEMS Associate with Lawrence Hall of Science. She was the science instructor for the Norman Mineta Transportation Institute for high school students studying transportation infrastructure. Ms. Steever’s honors include Lincoln High School Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year for RAFT (Resource Area for Teachers), and Prudential Realty Outstanding Educator. Ms. Steever is passionate about mentoring teachers new to the profession and bringing real world applications to her students. Borrowing skills from her engineering career, Ms. Steever has collaborated on proposal and grant writing, managing external programs, and coordinating and training volunteer mentors.
