Rene Carson
Fellowship Placement: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Cohort: 2005-2006
Rene Carson taught middle school science and worked as a science specialist in the Little Rock School District for 34 years before leaving to become a Fellow at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2005-06. During Rene’s Fellowship at NOAA, she worked with the National Weather Service to revise some curriculum guides and was able to write the children's book, Big Storm Named Katrina. Rene met with the administration in the Education division of NOAA on a regular basis and was allowed to give input on how NOAA could help classroom teachers with understanding the NOAA websites and how the data could help classroom teachers.
Since her fellowship at NOAA, Rene was employed at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as the Licensure Officer and worked on the accreditation processes of the university. She taught the College of Education's Science Methods courses for Graduate students. Rene retired from the University in 2014 and currently serves as the Program Manager for the Math and Science Partnership Grants for the Arkansas Department of Education.
