Notes
This will be the third year in a row that we are hosting our regional at Smith Middle School in Glastonbury, CT. The past two years we have run flawless events, starting on time and sticking to the schedule. The $125 fee is an increase from last year, but this will cover costs for your personalized 10" x 12" team plaque and lunches for all the volunteers, student competitors and their coaches. If we are successful in accessing other funding before the competition date of February 21st, then we will refund some or as much of the $125 registration fee as we can. When UConn CLAS dropped hosting us it was a budgetary issue, and so far to date we have been unsuccessful in recruiting another major benefactor to step forward and cover all the costs associated with this event. Glastonbury's Smith Middle has thankfully provided its building and custodial services at no cost so that we have been able to keep the registration fee low. Coca Cola Northeast, Glastonbury Stop & Shop and Whole Foods, and Manchester ShopRite have generously given us in-kind support so that snacks and beverages are available during the entire competition day. Our volunteer team of teacher-coaches, as well as student alumni that went on to compete at Nationals, are dedicated to sharing this fun and exciting competition with you, our most passionate and accomplished STEM students, and dedicated teachers. Richard Kao who went to Nationals twice, and whose team finished 3rd in the nation, flies up from Florida to put together our competition structure as well as moderate to the end. Joe Zavorskas, also a former NSB student alumni, moderates to the finals and helps us secure the buzzers and volunteers. Teacher-coach Sandra Nichols secures her school, Smith Middle and puts together our printed programs and so much more. Teacher-coach Maria Buono of Greenwich, helps fundraise and recruit new teams. If you are new to National Science Bowl, or even veteran participant, and would like one of us to come out to your school to run a practice with buzzers, please contact the coordinator Ed Smith and we will provide this service at no charge. Welcome all to the best team academic competition in America - National Science Bowl!

Beginning October 6, 2025 at noon Eastern: Coaches either log-in to existing or create new accounts. The only information needed initially is the coach, co-coach, and school information.
Coaches will not be asked (or allowed) to enter any information on the team members.
After the team coach agrees to follow the eligibility requirements AND consents to the information in the former “Adult Consent and Media Form”, the coach can submit the school’s PREREGISTRATION.
After the coach submits the school PREREGISTRATION, the Regional Coordinator will approve the PREREGISTRATION if there is space. An approved PREREGISTRATION secures at least one spot for a school. Note: If the coach or co-coach is not a school employee, the school principal must complete the coach approval before PREREGISTRATION can be approved.
ONLY after the school’s PREREGISTRATION is approved, can the coach begin building their teams.
Between PREREGISTRATION approval and November 23, 2025, at 11:59 pm local time, the coach must SUBMIT their Team 1 registration. If the coach does not submit the Team 1 registration BEFORE November 24, 2025, the school loses its reserved space. Note: Preregistrations approved after November 23, 2025, are NOT guaranteed a space in the competition.
In order to SUBMIT a team registration, a signed “Parental Consent and Media Release Form” must be submitted for each team member – these forms are to be signed electronically by the parents/guardians. These electronic forms will be available after you enter the students’ information.
To repeat: a coach cannot submit a team registration without completed and signed parental forms.
To summarize:
Step 1: Coach submits school PREREGISTRATION to guarantee one spot for the school
Step 2: Regional Coordinator approves the PREREGISTRATION
Step 3: Coach submits team registration for Team 1 before November 24
IF an event allows 2nd and 3rd teams, coaches may work on completing the submission process for the 2nd/3rd teams any time after the PREREGISTRATION is approved. However, 2nd and 3rd teams will not be approved before December 8, 2025. There will be no “first come, first served” approvals before January 1, 2026. If there is not enough space for all teams, second or third teams will be selected via a lottery system. Please email the Regional Coordinator for more information.
