Designation Process
The process for obtaining designation as an Office of Science user facility is described in the following memorandum:
Please note that the Office of Science designation is separate and distinct from the DOE Office of General Counsel (GC) designation, which controls a facility’s access to the Department’s User Agreement intellectual property class waivers. These class waivers facilitate access to the facilities by providing a common framework for consideration of user intellectual property and data rights.

All Office of Science user facilities also hold the GC designation and are approved to use the User Agreement class waivers.
